Transactions: Originally a 2nd-round (36th pick overall) draft choice by the Giants in 1997.
Tiki Barber (Born Atiim Kiambu Barber on April 7, 1975 in Roanoke, Virginia is an American Football Running Back, drafted in the 2nd round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He is the identical twin brother of Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber. Primarily drafted for his ability as a 3rd down, "change of pace" back, he has since bulked up and has become a standout starting running back. For the 2004 season, he was the NFL's top yardage gainer from the line of scrimmage. It is notable that he attended the University of Virginia on an academic scholarship, not an athletic scholarship.

NFL career

In the 2000 NFL season, Barber formed a fearsome duo with the NCAA's all time leading rusher, Ron Dayne. The two were labeled "Thunder and Lightning" by the New York media, and helped the Giants reach Super Bowl XXXV.
Over the next 4 years Barber would become the most important part of the Giants offense. In the last regular season game of 2002, Tiki exploded for 203 yards against the Eagles, at the time one of the league's best defenses. His performance helped the Giants clinch a playoff berth, only for the team to fall to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild card round. He ended the season with 1,984 yards from scrimmage.

St. Louis' Marshall Faulk had 2,429 yards in 1999 (1,381 rushing, 1,048 receiving). His previous record was set in 2004 with 2,096 all-purpose yards (1,518 rushing and 578 receiving)…Barber has 3 times set the team record for most receptions in a season by a running back, 1st with 66 in 1999, then with 70 in 2000 and finally with 72 in 2001. Prior to Barber’s arrival, Frank Gifford held the record with 51 in 1956…Was the starting running back coming out of his 2nd training camp in 1998 but was replaced in the lineup by veteran Gary Brown after 4 games...Began his rookie season in 1997 as the starting running back after beating out Tyrone Wheatley in the preseason. Injuries limited him to just 6 starts in 12 games.
